ohhh…a.p.c.! the brand of modern classics certainly knows how to shelter its coveted merchandise. its latest paris venture is another statement of retail cool and is designed by laurent deroo, the starchitect who has already crafted many a stunning a.p.c. store across the planet. mind you, this hyperclean, all-white outlet has a special status, selling only a selection of jeans, accessories and featuring items from special projects. location: 1 rue de varenne [st.-germain].
swedish tee innovator t-post is at it again. every six weeks the planet’s first wearable magazine sends subscribers a new t-shirt by mail, containing a news story on the inside and an artist interpretation on the front. now t-post steps up the game, providing its flock the opportunity to wear their graphic tee in front of any web camera and play a game of rock paper scissors against a computer-generated arm that extends from the shirt itself. check out the video!
beirut quickly rises from the ashes and meanwhile establishes itself as the region’s ritziest shopping destination. the latest luxury brand to arrive is burberry. it opened a store in the massive beirut souks mall downtown, the city’s latest shopping playground. the new outlet measures a respectable 250 sqm. and features the brand’s burberry london and burberry brit collections for men and women plus accessories, shoes and jewellery. location: rue allenby [central beirut].
the wolf & pack store and gallery is an initiative by new york transplants julian lynn and gabriel hunter. the two became friends in the early 90s, working at the shelter’s legendary club night n.a.s.a. and streetwear emporium liquid sky.
wolf & pack’s primary aim is to work with u.s. brands that have little exposure in europe, exclusively offering amsterdam the products from this rich industry. it stocks brands such as lola, award tour, create build destroy, peg leg and no mas, as well as its very own house brand and an assortment of nike and new era. the gallery shows rotate every two months, collaborating with and exhibiting artists such as the london police, wayne horse, morcky, ticquestar and abner preis.

photographer dinh q. lĂŞ’s installation elegies opens at p.p.o.w on thu - feb 4 [6pm-8pm]. the installation consists of two videos, from father to son: a rite of passage [2007] and south china sea pishkun [2009], and related large-scale photographic works. the videos focus on the specters that embody the psychological and physical inheritance of the vietnam war and also act as endings, one as an ending of the journey of a father and a son, and the other as an ending of america’s misadventures in vietnam. location: 511 west 25th street [chelsea].

already present on the block having its affiliated boutiques comme des garçons under the ground and martin margiela relocate there, edgy hong kong retailer i.t steps up the game with the additional opening of its latest flagship store on ice house street. designed by architect laurent deroo of a.p.c. fame, the 3,058 sq.ft. store is dominated by shades of natural wood, contrasted by black twist metal panels that lead customers from the ground floor entrance to the basement area.

lavish resort chain amanresorts opened its second property in china earlier this month. dubbed the amanfayun, it’s located in a secluded lush area on the outskirts of the historic city of hangzhou, southwest of bustling shanghai. the property occupies the former dwellings of a rural community. these have been transformed into 42 luxurious rooms, suites and villas, and refurbished with style, modern comfort and technical innovation in mind.

criticizing the endless output of overhyped designer toys across the planet, norwegian art collective cupofill stage the one-day all bottled up event at the hvelvet bar on thu - jan 28 [from 5pm] to put it into perspective again. breaking away from the monotony by criticizing yet appreciating the finer aspects of it, cupofill seeks the challenge to illustrate on a 3d surface: a glass beer bottle, considered the ultimate symbol of the consumption of alcoholic beverages in norway.
it’s also where their fascination lies: where do you draw the line between marketing and illustration as the latter is often put to use to sell a product. the work on display at this show should provide for for thought regarding the rules and norms of society. location: norges kreative fagskole, kirkegata 24-26 [sentrum].
sennheiser released the superstylish high-end 980-range earphones. the cx 980, mx 980 and omx 980 are designed by sonny lim of the singapore-based studio of bmw designworks. he very much focused on the brand’s philosophy and aesthetics, and extrapolated from there. the result is a fusion of technical excellence, ultimate comfort and last but not least, sleek design. the sennheiser 980-range earphones series are available at selected stores across the planet.
in collaboration with creative agency kesselskramer, culture tweakers keefe cordeiro and christian bunyan reveal new tapestry, a contemporary version of the bayeux tapestry on thu - jan 28 [5pm-8pm]. originally created as a visual chronicle of its time in 1066, the newly created work reflects the current times just the same, featuring art work by 44 international artists on a 30-meter strip of fabric. new tapestry is divided into 52 panels, one for each week of the year and depicts various graphic styles in black and white. participating artists include christian borstlap, laser 3.14 and joe morse. location: steendrukkerij amsterdam, lauriergracht 80 [centrum].

opening thu - jan 28 at pub department store is in a perfect world…, a joint exhibition by students of two separate departments of beckmans college of design. on display are visionary concepts of 3-4 outfits of 12 fashion students that aim to innovate and expand the fashion vocabulary.
the fashion students have been assisted by their counterparts of the school’s advertising + graphic design department who created the show’s concept and assisted in capturing the fashion students’ creative visions on film. location: hötorget 13 [norrmalm].

launching tue - jan 26 at galerie des galeries is picaflor, an exhibition by dior homme’s creative director kris van assche. the show is the third edition of the hyères encore series, organised by the gallery and the annual villa noailles fashion contest in southern france. on display is an installation of 12 interactive man-size ‘mirror flowers’ created by american artist matt saunders with whom the designer has collaborated on his womenswear s/s 10 runway presentation.
for its a/w 10 collection shown yesterday in milan, giuliano fujiwara adds multi-layered and hyperbaggy to its sharp style vocabulary. interpreted through clean geometric lines, designer masataka matsumura shows off what he’s good at: fusing aesthetics from east and west.
