nagoya: aichi triennale

nagoya may be lacking the excitement of tokyo or osaka’s swagger, japan’s third largest metropolitan area is steadily bulking up, and creating a cultural buzz all its own. today sees the launch of the inaugural edition of the aichi triennale, an international arts festival that aims to convey the latest trends in contemporary arts and presented in various forms and presentations at different venues across town.

aichi triennale’s first edition is themed arts and cities and as such the event expands into the streets, parks and public squares without limiting itself to museums and theaters [on until oct 31]. click the weblink for more info and full program.

the travelling tezuka gene – light in the darkness design show arrives in nagoya, opening on thu – mar 5 at parco gallery. this is a collab show of creative platform gas as interface and tezuka productions, the studio of renowned manga artist osamu tezuka. his artistic creations include astroboy and kimba the white lion. on display are works by various japanese artists who are inspired by the master’s hugely popular legacy. location: west building, 8th floor, 3-29-1 sakae [naka-ku].
