australian filmmaker and one-third of design group, collider, daniel askill opens a solo exhibition at monster children gallery. opening wed - apr 1 [6pm], ‘artefacts from the fifth ritual’ is a showcase of video, sculptural and photographic work, the first in a series that will culminate in askill’s second long form film project. the new film, titled, ‘universal machine’, will expand upon ideas introduced in his 2003 film ‘we have decided not to die‘. location: 20 burton street [darlinghurst].

the seventh annual shanghai short film contest takes place this saturday 6th december. all the films of 8-12 minutes long have to be on ‘naughty side’ featuring ’sexiness, sensuality, and elegance’. but this is china so don’t get too excited. the setting for the screenings will be in the remarkably old shanghai theatre at xinguang film art center at 586 ningbo lu [near xinguang bei lu]
