brit artist james johnson-perkins has a solo show at nospace gallery, opening there on thu - aug 5 [5pm]. dubbed who killed top of the pops?, the exhibition is a murder mystery of sorts, with dark and troubling pretend polaroids, 1970s top of the pops album covers turned into modernist collages and a selection of sound tracks from games on the 1980s zx spectrum home computer. the artist’s new video piece shoot that poisened arrow will also be screened. location: 21/108 block d, royal city avenue [huay kwang].

if you think a baguette is the pinnacle of french design, you may learn a thing or two from this show. the icons of french design exhibition, organized in collab with the french embassy, opens on wed - jul 9 at the bangkok art and culture centre. the showcase features 30 iconic 20th-century french design works, from the citroën ds to the concorde and sleek home knick-knacks by the ubiquitous philippe starck. location: 939 thanon rama I, wang mai [pathumwan].

the trans-cool tokyo exhibition just launched at bangkok art + culture centre [on until mar 28]. this cool show features over 30 works from the collection of tokyo’s museum of contemporary art, and includes some of japan’s leading contemporary artists such as yayoi kusama, yoshitomo nara and yasumasa morimura.

the trans-cool tokyo exhibition can be divided into three sections: the first includes work based on comics, science fiction, robots and the like - japan’s newest narratives and pop icons. the second section features artists who seek out new identities within the context of globalization and the third section includes artists who base their work on their own personal emotions and events in everyday life. location: 939 thanon rama I [pathumwan].

opening sat - mar 4 [8pm] at nospace gallery is photographer jesper haynes‘ solo exhibition st. marks 1986-2006. for 20 years he had an apartment at 90 st. mark’s place in new york’s east village. his friends, their friends, roommates, lovers, people left over from parties and others formed the basis for the selection of photos [all shot in his apartment] on display. location: 21/108 block d, royal city avenue [huay kwang].

opening on wed - nov 4 [7pm-11pm] at artgorillas artgallery is the ride a life group exhibition. the thai government and the bangkok metropolitan administration have launched several unsucessful campaigns to promote the use of bicycles as a mode of transporation in the city. this show is presented by the jnsnp, a local fixed-gear bike community that strives to further promote the use of bicycles.

on display are over 70 art works, varying from photography to graphic design and from scultures to typography. register at 7pm for give-away souvenirs when attending the event by bike! dj sets by super zonic and stargazer. location: lido multiplex building, shop 260, siam square soi 3, thanon rama 1 [pathumwan].

anglo-thai party collective dudesweet called it quits last summer after throwing some of the city’s best parties for six years, leaving behind a devastated fanbase. but…they’re back! rethinking the party formula, dudesweet go back to their indie rock roots and throw a likeminded party at 808 on sat - sep 5 [9pm-2am]. dj lineup includes 089-015-1xxx, nok air and knatz. location: rca, 21/39-40 royal city avenue [huay kwang].

opening party of artist peerapong uthaipan’s solo show power of spirit at artgorillas artgallery is tue – aug 18 [7pm-9pm]. on display are large monotone acrylic canvases inspired by famous and successful thai public figures. location: lido multiplex building, shop 260, siam square soi 3, thanon rama 1 [pathumwan].

superfuture lurrrves contemporary architecture, especially when it’s as innovative as the 77-storey maha nakhon tower which is to be built shortly in downtown bangkok. designed by oma’s ole scheeren, the extraordinary structure is an architectural statement that transcends the traditional formula of a seamless, inert, glossy totem, and instead actively engages the city with its intricate pixilated and carved façade of stacked surfaces, terraces and protrusions.



the 150,000 sqm. complex will feature luxury retail space, apartments and hotel accomodation: 200 single-level and duplex homes for ritz-carlton residences plus 150 rooms for the bangkok edition, a boutique hotel collab of new york-based hospitality guru ian schrager and marriott. the maha nakhon will be the city’s tallest building when completed in 2012. location: thanon narathiwat [bangrak].
