brit artist nick walker put up this intriguing, if not slightly controversial, wall painting in paris earlier this week. dubbed le corancan, it’s a visual amalgamation of the islamic veil and french 19th-century dance, the can can. the wall painting is a pre-taster of the i love america group show in which the artist participates, held next may at studio 55. wall painting location: quai de valmy [canal st.-martin].
the wolf & pack store and gallery is an initiative by new york transplants julian lynn and gabriel hunter. the two became friends in the early 90s, working at the shelter’s legendary club night n.a.s.a. and streetwear emporium liquid sky.
wolf & pack’s primary aim is to work with u.s. brands that have little exposure in europe, exclusively offering amsterdam the products from this rich industry. it stocks brands such as lola, award tour, create build destroy, peg leg and no mas, as well as its very own house brand and an assortment of nike and new era. the gallery shows rotate every two months, collaborating with and exhibiting artists such as the london police, wayne horse, morcky, ticquestar and abner preis.

earlier this week the thalys high-speed train got an urban makeover by four european graffiti artists at gare du nord in paris. jonone, sozy one, seak and zedz, representing the train destinations paris, brussels, cologne and amsterdam, were invited to each pimp an entire train carriage. they were asked to do so to mark the launch of a faster thalys service between paris and brussels, amsterdam and cologne coming december.

it was only very recently that the nam june paik art center officially opened in yongin, approximately 40km south of seoul. dedicated entirely to the late ‘n great videomaster nam jun paik, the building features a video archive, exhibition halls and other amenities, and is designed by berlin-based architect kirsten schemel. the opening show is jump now, featuring works of 113 artists from across the globe who all were influenced by the videomaster [until feb 5. location: 85 sanggal-dong [giheung-gu].
