I was gonna try to avoid sharing full length CD quality stuff (as a matter of respect) and just do the "my own mixes/Radio rips & sets" thing, but I understand that shit is hard to get stateside, and I've downloaded my fair share of artists whole mixtapes, so requests are fair game I guess. Maybe keep album links on the PM tip though.

For the most part...most grime albums (legit and mixtapes) are pretty mediocre, pirate radio/ in the rave is ideal format.

As for "everyone here already has what I have". I doubt it. I got a grip, but you should contribute if you want.

I hate to say it, but I wasn't really feeling the Kode9/Spaceape record that much.

With some of this stuff, its like I want to like it, but I just don't. It was a little low energy and spacey for my tastes. What do you dubstep boys think of Burial. It seems to be a love hate thing from what I can tell, but I took a listen and was kind of feeling where he was headed. Kind of a dark contemplative journey.

Plastician on the other hand always gets me hyped (sick mixer!) so that set is appreciated. Part of the reson I posted that first set w/ DJ Tootsi is cause those beats are fucked, and I was especially feeling Garna, Jsweet, and a few others on the harder side of things....

More too come.

kode9/spaceape - the same goes....i asbsolutely love em. definitely less of a dancefloor emphasis. ill post some more mixes soon, got a fair bit of really tasty shit recently.

I've been listing to Ghetto's mixtape and the Movement mixtape recently. A bit old, but enjoyable. I'm a bit upset that Crazy Titch's career has been cut short. he had a good sense of humor, and was one of the most animated people i have ever met. Second only to Skinnyman.

definitely a good track, better than that first leak of "wasteman" although, it was shitty quality and may sound better when you actually hear the low end.

i have high hopes for Dizzee's third, despite Wiley's claims that he's fallen off.

Been into my Dubstep since 2005 (when it didn't quite have a name yet) and repping hard in the Brighton scene since. Got some great nights here... Dubpressure since day dot, and more recently Square Roots / Sureskank. The 15k Gramps soundsystem will most likely be the death of me (but I can't say I didn't have a good run). Obviously the main action's on dubstepforum.com, but I'll help anyone out in whatever way I can.

barry - superfuture was originally started as a travel/shopping guide to different cities around the world. it still does that, but i dare say the forums are by far the most widely used part/s of the website. the forums cover all bases, as you can see, but there is quite a bit of emphasis on fashion. this place is definitely the best denim resource on the net, and there are a lot of knowledgable folk here on almost anything you could imagine.

i initially came to SF years ago looking for some stores interstate/overseas, and started using the forums when searching for denim info.

Trim's new CD is not as good as I hoped it would be, but is still miles above the bunch, looking forward to volume 2.

Frisco's new Mixtape is one of the most consistent and straight grimey tapes to come out in a while, lot of proper bangers on there.

Finally got Durrty Goodz Dirrty Whirl promo mixcd and it's on constant repeat. Anyone here feel him? His versatility is impressive, and his ragga flow is one of the best in grime handsdown...

Been listening to this Rinse set from last week, DJ Tubby feat, Newham Gens and Tempa T. Quality is shit, but I'll be damned if they don't fuck up the Grimey dubstep beats. Tempz is a badman on this one.

good to hear some deeper shit too, it has been on high rotation since i got it.

mayhem producing dubstep too now eh? look forward to hearing what he comes up with....there's quite a few dnb heads crossing over now...it generally seems to be those on the darker end of the dnb spectrum - ie juju, tech itch.

As you might have heard on the end of that set I gave you, Logan Sama was gonna do one of his hour long mixtape/sets radio style but with much better quality. For whatever reason, shit never happened. "Bloodline", who are half of meridian have one though, problem is, everything that isn't H is pretty much hiphopish trash. H has sick cuts on there though. I'll get em to ya some how.

On another note, thanks for the Wiley promo. Shit sounds pretty good, bar maybe two or three tracks. I'll definitley pick up a legit copy at Kim's when it comes in simply to blast good quality versions of BowE3 and No Qualms in the ride...

Yeah, Bow E3 is my shit too. That's my favorite song on the album along with Gangsters. I was blasting that in the car last night .. something about the beat on the E3 track does it for me, I'm hooked on it.

wolves, thx for that wiley link a few months back - he's always been cagey in interviews so maybe this retirement thing has convinced him to let him speak his mind a bit more.

anyway, i was surprised to see that roll deep were distancing themselves from "in at the deep end," imo one of the great dance albums of the last ten years precisely because it doesn't come off like a collection of singles strung together with filler. to take a direction like that and make it work is a rare proposition, can't think of too many other examples of an established producer even attempting to do that mid-stride besides photek deciding to do house. to my mind, the extremely dull and uninspired rules & regulations bears this out this side of the argument 100%.

am i alone in this mindset? i thought the yardbirds "little games" was their best album so i guess it wouldn't be the first time. anyway, curious to hear everyone's thoughts and sorry if i'm a year late to the discussion...

the untrue mix is pretty good......i can definitely tell this record is going to be amazing, es expected. but the mix is cluttered, and disjointed...i realise kode9 obviously wanted to give as best a depiction of the record as he could - within 15 minutes mind you - but by playing excerpts from 17-odd tracks, it just ended up sounding a bit messy.

that said though.......untrue is going to be the shit.

anyone feeling Pinch's "Underwater Dancehall" LP? amazing that this and "Untrue" come on the backs of each other.

it's really refreshing to hear proper vocal albums like this and Various' "The World Is Gone" being released. Ultimately these records will solidify the genre, while the wobble monster trax will still keep the heads in the dance.

I'd like to hear some more recs, too. Burial s/t is by far my favorite. I also like Various Production (The World Is Gone, 2006), Disrupt's Foundation Bit. If you never got into The Knife's latest Silent Shout, that's another dark one. Neither is grime, just heave d'n'b that still fall under "dubstep" genre at times.

JT....im diggin some of it. some of it is absolute tripe, but theres some good stuff coming through. some of the tougher stuff is good - i can dig on a lot of the female vocals, but its easy to overdose on it.....need more male vocals imo.

from what ive read here and there lately, it sounds like this sound is spreading from northern england and making its way south. i can definitely see a big boom on the horizon.

its basically a revival though - of the speed garridge of 5+ years ago, albeit with a few more twisted b-lines.

check out anything on skull disco records.....everything they release is gold. its run by shackleton, and features shackleton and appleblim. really deep stuff....massive sub bass, and a lot of their stuff needs to be heard to be believed - some real world music vibes going on in a lot of their material.

2562 is a dope producer....interesting beats, you can a lot of minimal techno influences coming through in his stuff.

you need to check out scuba too, and toasty.
anything on hotflush recordings, scuba's label.

obviously christine vaccine and intex systems.

some of kode9's work is really deep too. 'memories of the future', his LP alongside spaceape, is brilliant. there's a fair bit of those sort of vibes on his label hyperdub....burial for example.

also geiom....he's amazing. originally an IDM/abstract electronica producer. he runs his own label called 'berkane sol', and has produced some awesome tracks recently. check his tune 'auxology'. really deep, progressive melodic business.

Burial: It's always been difficult for me to make tunes. i'd just sit or walk waiting for night to fall hoping i'd make something i liked. Or come back in and try to make the club echo in my head from going out. I'd chosen certain vocals because the mood I was in. I wanted more vocals cos they attempt to form songs, its kind of sad but they get to you in the end, i don't want a singer i want something else. Also all i listened to for a year was Black Secret Technology. I still made most of the tunes in the dead of the night, and when you do that you have to let the tune kind of hypnotize you otherwise you'll just fall asleep or play Playstation. The tunes just lulled me, and you need a vocal to do that, and a certain type of sound to echo and circle and sway into a pattern. The moodiness made the tunes, not me. Now when I listen to them, they're ramshackle, DIY and rolling but I know there is a thing trapped in them so that when I look back on them, even if its dry, I know when it was made, I know what was going on that day, its like stapling real life to the side of the tune. I can't get a singer or some session musician to come in and play or sing some dry song, so I've got to get people singing acapellas or just mates singing in their phones and re-cut up what they're saying. Sometimes I run out of a vocal and I have to re-cut up each word and make them sing a whole new verse, and you cant tell what they're saying. But I feel I can make them say certain lyrics.

I think Untrue is more accessible, but the s/t was a stroke of genius. I love them both for what they are.

i'm not sure whether he uses no sampled vox at all, but i remembe reading somewhere that he had friends record vocals for him, down the phone and whatnot.

im loving it so far, and have listened to it a few times today....but i think this is definitely going to be a grower of an album, theres lots of very subtle nuances to his tunes that can be appreciated either more or less in certain listening environments, ie. headphones vs loud system vs car etc etc

either way, his debut would be pretty fucking hard to top.

I just finished listening to the newest Burial album and im blown away. This is one of the best albums in any genre I've ever heard. Archangel, specifically, is on constant rotation. The vocals and drums are so perfect.

I bought the Burial album...

I wouldn't say i don't like it, but I'm really underwhelmed. There's just something I don't quite get about this guy. It all sounds a little bit too hollow to me, needs some more texture. His drums drive me fucking batty after a while.

i thought the same thing about the first burial album but I found this one to be incredibly dense so much scratch and fuzz phasing in and out touches of soul 2 step and dirty r & b. I think you need to listen to it louder

i saw kode9 and spaceape at mutek in montreal in june. before that, when i listened to dubstep at home, or on headphones, i found it a bit underwhelming.

then i heard it on a proper system and it makes complete sense. so much of the texture of the music and the layers of bass are lost if they're not moving through your entire body, not just your ears. i don't think this is unique to dubstep, but it is definitely more characteristic of it.

I went to the Wiley show Alone and wasted off my face.

That shit was a real dissapointment. Crowd was real thin, The openers/hypemen were some second-string manchester grime fools, and worst of all, wiley did his set with NO DJ....just a fucking unmanned laptop sitting behind him.

Weak.

Plus I thought every tall white kid (of which there were many) or short spanish kid (of which there were few) was OMC or Notesee.

As for sets????

I got raw sets for days, many of which have been posted in the past, some of which were ignored, and some of which were never posted.

I'll get bak on the sets thing soon.
